Apple Kuchen for a crowd

This recipe calls for a half sheet pan.

Prepare Streusel and set  aside

Put all ingredients in bowl and work with hands until crumb texture and butter is worked in.
(Can also be done in a food processor with a blade)

Streusel for 5 pies or one half sheet with a little left over for muffins.

2 cups packed brown sugar
1 3/4 cups flour
2 sticks butter (8 oz.)

Kuchen Crust

In food processor (maybe a mixer will work), combine:

3 1/2 cups sifted flour
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

9 oz. butter

Add: 3Tablespoons water with 2 beaten eggs and 1 1/2 tsp. almond or vanilla flavoring

Press kuchen crust onto bottom of a half sheet pan.
Peel and slice thinly 9 large  firm apples and layer them in 6 rows across the width of the crust.
Drizzle with honey or light cinammon sugar.
Top with streusel. Add nuts if desired.

Bake at 350 for 30 minutes, or until bottom crust lifted underneath with a spatula looks light brown in color.
Cut in desired size pieces.

Variations:  This also works well with cored unpeeled pear halves, or plum slices or halves.
